In 2020, Brevity & Wit was commissioned by the John Hopkins University's Center of Communications Programs to produce two videos for its Breakthrough ACTION program in an effort to support social and behavior change within global family planning initiatives.

Goals

  • Produce a motion design video that effectively communicates the importance of funding social and behavior change for family planning strategies to government officials and donors while showcasing its unique impact globally.

Process

  • Initial kickoff meeting between Brevity & With and the Breakthrough ACTION team to establish clear goals, expectations, and deadlines.

  • Conducted a thorough review of the project scope, brand guidelines and draft script before presenting a static storyboard to the Breakthrough ACTION team.

  • Worked closely with and maintained regular communication with Breakthough ACTION to ensure that our work aligned with the client's vision.

  • Utilized Adobe Illustrator and After Effects to create a custom animation based on project objectives and brand guidelines.

  • Curated a selection on music and scouted out voice actors for the video based on tone and theme.

  • Shared a draft video with Breakthrough ACTION team and key stakeholders for feedback that would be implemented into the final video.

  • After a few rounds of revisions, the video was ready to share broadly with government officials and donors

Impact

  • The videos were used as resources in meetings with government officials and donors and received positive feedback about it’s ability to create opportunities for improved collaboration and alignment..

  • In addition to the English version, a French version of the video was produced to cater to the unique case studies of global decision-makers.

  • The social media clips in both English and French generated significant engagement, reaching a broad audience and increasing awareness about the impact of SBC on FP strategies.
