Living Into Our Values at Human Rights Campaign
Non-profit • Internal Communications
In 2019, Human Rights Campaign introduced the organizational values that are essential to its identity and how the organization approaches its work in the fight for LGBTQ+ equality. I was asked to use animation to spark excitement and inspiration with internal staff during the rollout of the new visuals.
Process
I supported this project near the tail-end of its completion. Prior to my arrival in late 2019, HRC organized a staff-driven process through working groups, surveys and all-staff presentations that engaged employees at all levels in defining the internal values.
Read through and discussed documentation with colleagues that helped me to understand the research that led to the conception of the eight values.
I met with HRC’s Design Director to discuss the illustrations created by an contract designer and how we can emphasize the visual depiction of the icons through motion.
I created rough storyboards of the icons to envision how they would be animated.
Presented animations to Design and Leadership teams to receive feedback.
Created additional assets such as individual gifs and computer screensavers for staff use.
Impact
Employees throughout the organization use the animations consistently within org-wide presentations, peer recognition and onboarding new staff and volunteers.
Animations have been implemented into e-learning projects on the Leadership Development team
